HOPE's
Impact on People
HOPE impacts individuals both personally and
professionally. Here are three stories of people known to us
in HOPE who focused on their intentions--what they wanted
to do with their lives in the face of their cancer--and what
happened when they did.Further evidence of HOPE's
impact can be found on Stephen D. Thompson's Home Page,
http://www.thecenter4.com/. Stephen, a HOPE'r with a cancer
experience, was diagnosed with fourth stage lymphoma in
January of 1988. With his wife, Nona Libby Thompson, he
attended HOPE Group meetings in Portland, Maine for six
months while he was undergoing chemotherapy. He is now
President of HOPE's Board of Trustees.
What HOPE’rs Say About Their
Experiences:
“I found out how powerful
this is in helping me live life one day at a time.”
“I’ve learned to focus on my life, not my disease.”
“I love being in my HOPE group. They've helped me learn a
lot about people, including me.”
“My family keeps telling me I’ve changed. They don’t quite
know how, but they like it. So do I!”
“I find I get along with other people so much better. I’ve
learned a lot about love.”
“It makes so much sense to see that my screw-ups are really
lessons. I don’t feel so guilty any more.”
“You’re doing something right over there. Ma’s sure got a
better attitude since she started going.”
“I may have cancer, but it ain’t got me!”
