where you find out who you really are...

where we know that at the core of their being all humans strive to be healthy and whole--a process called healing; all of us are persons and because no two of us are alike--we're all exceptional.... Moreover, we're alive because the whole marvelous Universe is alive, and It's not in the business of repeating Itself.... humans are spiritual beings immersed in the human condition.

HOPE has a twenty-year-long tradition and experience of helping humans find their Universal meaning, value, and purpose.  We help them develop powerful, affirming attitudes that empower them to confront the unpleasant things life has thrown at them (like cancer, heart disease, depression, MS, AIDS,...) and find answers through hope, "the certainty that things can make sense, regardless of how they work out. (Vaclav Havel)."

In this respect, we offer you the following questions:

• "Are you living your life as if it were a vital part of a living Universe?" And whatever your answer, we'll help you fine-tune your life to live that blessing way with even greater skill than before.

• "What one thing can you do today in your thoughts and your actions that brings the light of hope and love to others and yourself?" Be aware that you help change the world by joining others making that same inner change. Bless you for taking your part in the blessing-way.

• Are you wondering why life seems to have hit you "one upside the head with a cosmic two-by-four" and you are asking, "Why me?" And consider how many times that question has been asked... and Creation replies, "I don't pretend to control these things, and for that I suffer with you now and sing joy with you as you meet the challenge of your life."

 And the following descriptions of HOPE's service and traditions:

• Our experience is of knowing that you and I--all of us--are loved by the Source of all that is.  This is our spiritual essence that includes all religious and non-religious beliefs.
  
  Martin Luther King, Jr. has this to say about this Love that loves us:
  
  "When I speak of love I am not speaking of some sentimental and weak response. I am speaking of that force which all of the great religions have seen as the supreme unifying principle of life. Love is somehow the key that unlocks the door to ultimate reality."

• Volunteer, open, ongoing, confidential HOPE Groups in which we set the context for what walks in through the door by joining in reading the GoldBook.

• Professional, closed, clinical-service patient-practitioner meetings in medical practices and hospital services guided by HOPE-trained healthcare professionals from the practice or service to provide safe places of hope and care for sharing clinical experiences in the context of helping patients get on with their lives.

• Our traditions lie in the writings and teachings of those who have looked into life's deepest suffering and have found the hope and truth that heal us. They stand on the principle that the mandate of medicine is healing and that the professional serves as a healer when s-he puts all treatment in that context.

• We acknowledge that whatever challenges our lives challenges us to find the truth in that life... and the hope that knows the truth is there to be found... and the primary role of the physician-healer is to treat disease with compassion and care, all the while encouraging the patient to find what gives the greatest meaning to her-his life and to get on with that life.

• Our experience nurtures your growth--your life--by helping you come to know that your life has meaning, value and purpose... to find out who you really are..., and, first and foremost, to live that life fully.

We who make up HOPE help our fellow humans find hope, the attitude of meaning, value, and purpose; faith, the belief that they are a part of a life far greater than their own; and love, the "cosmic feeling, a spirit of oneness with the Universe" (Rumi).

Our teachers are wonderful people like Rumi, Mohandas Gandhi, Mother Theresa, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Jr., Viktor Frankl, Earl Nightingale, Napoleon Hill, Vaclav Havel, Emily Dickinson, Gerald Jampolsky, Danah Zohar, Peter Senge.... They can be yours, too; for we can share them with you.

The Universe has asked us humans for our experience of life, and our guilty and fearful past gets in the way through its focus on illness and death. Faith, hope, and love are strands of a line of service that leads the way home. There we find that the reward of all life is each life.

Earl Nightingale's groundbreaking studies of the essence of success reveal that the thread of discovery which ties the healing together lies in finding and choosing the attitudes that lead from illness to health--a process that Gerald Jampolsky calls "Attitudinal Healing."

With it you come to realize why you have come into your life. You learn to honor the resources you have been given to meet life with, the circum-stances life has met you with, the experience you have created out of that meeting, and what you can do with that experience--right now. Come, share your experience of life with us. We'll help you make it into a beneficial gift to others and the Universe.
